Pre-filling file summary field

Do you know if there is a MediaWiki page where we can pre-fill File upload page description field with Veidne:Information template? It might force more users to fill it. --Papuass (diskusija) 2020. gada 30. jūnijs, plkst. 16.24 (EEST)

You can change the {{information}} template so it gives you a notice like on the English wikipedia en:Template:Information. But that will only tell uploader AFTER the upload that some information is missing.

I think the best is to ask everyone to upload directly to Commons if it is a free file. It can look like en:Wikipedia:File_Upload_Wizard but some wikis have an even bigger sign saying GO TO COMMONS!

English Wikipedia have an upload wizard to guide the user. That should make sure that the user give all the relevant information.

But they also have the old upload form en:Wikipedia:Upload/old. If you say it is my own work you get en:Wikipedia:Upload/Own work this page where there is a big sign Go to Commons and a tiny link to upload locally.

The local link has a template included. That way it will add the template and the uploader can see if any information is missing.

I just took the link from English wikipedia and changed en. to lv. and added a line for permission and changed capital letters to small letters and got this link. It seems to work for me so it should be possible to implement that. --MGA73 (diskusija) 2020. gada 30. jūnijs, plkst. 17.18 (EEST)

I think you need to make a request at m:Requesting_wiki_configuration_changes to get a new starting page for uploading files. That starting page could be a shorter version of MediaWiki:Uploadtext where user is asked if its a free file or a non-free file. And if its a free file they are asked to go to Commons (and a small link to local upload if they insist on uploading locally).
